  • 5.0 out of 5 stars: Great Resource - April 22, 2012 (via Amazon.com) By CCT (Amazon Verified Purchase) This book contains everything you would need to read the Hunger Games. The activities are wonderful and many different ones. Covers critical thinking, vocabulary, grammar, and more! Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars: Excellent Resource - from Amazon August 5, 2012 (via Amazon.com) By J. Schenk (Amazon Verified Purchase) For educators who are seeking a thorough analysis of The Hunger Games as well as exercises in vocabulary, grammar, setting, influences, symbols and characters, this is the book to purchase. Not only has the author broken the book down into chapters with plot questions, but she also adds essay questions, character quotes and a complete section with the answers. I would highly recommend it. Joyce Schenk

5.0 out of 5 stars: Worth the Money - August 19, 2012 (via Amazon.com) By Stefanie Keene (Amazon Verified Purchase) This is the best teachers' guide I've ever purchased and worth writing my first review. It has focused standard alignment and entails real classroom instruction with no fluff. There are assessments for vocabulary, comprehension, and character development along with grammar lessons. It also reviews character motivation, point of view, flashbacks, etc. The only thing I have added so far is a Focus on the Author worksheet I developed after watching the author's interview on YouTube, and vocabulary PowerPoints to teach the vocabulary suggested. I dive in to teaching this unit tomorrow and have had a great time planning with this resource thus far!

(via TeachersPayTeachers.com) maryjowilliams It's pretty hard to put into words how powerful this resource was to the students during the reading of The Hunger Games. The information provided is amazing...I felt as though we covered almost every standard by using this resource. At times, I felt that it was taking way too long to do all the activities and projects (I know...I could pick and choose...and I did), but we enjoyed everything. I even added a couple of cool things from other sellers that complemented pages from this resource. I don't know how you pulled this all together, but thank you so much!! By the way, I created notebooks for all the students in 3-hole paper pocket folders. That worked our very nicely to keep everything together and organized. What is great is that there is SO much for teacher to pick and choose from. Outstanding!

(via TeachersPayTeachers.com) ADNIXON Amazing doesn't even begin to describe the unit. I was unsure about having my students read The Hunger Games, but not after finding this unit! Thanks.

(via TeachersPayTeachers.com) gabnation I used most of this with my 8th graders, and it worked out really well. It was hard to pick which activities I wanted to do with them, so I didn't! I let them pick which ones they wanted to do. I'm glad I came across this! I know a lot of hard work went into this! Thank you!

(via TeachersPayTeachers.com) jcampbell7 I knew this would be a great resource, but I was not expecting it to be at this magnitude! Wonderful resource, very thorough, and well worth what I paid! Includes lots of directions, activities, quizzes, and assessments. Thanks!

(via TeachersPayTeachers.com) Tadyer87 After reviewing the material in this book, there are so many more things covered than I originally thought! I have never seen a more complete guide!

Great unit October 30, 2012
Reviewer: Amalia Lopez from Visalia, CA United States
This plan has a great combo of literature and historical context. I like the inclusion of expository texts with the unit plan and the clear connection to the standards. It is being used with 9th grade English.

Great gift! December 26, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from San Jose, CA United States
I gave a colleague this PDF as a gift (downloaded it onto her work computer) and she was soooo happy!  Just in the 30 minutes she skimmed through it initially, she loved the vocabulary lists, Roman allusions breakdown, and the Panem-specific vocab lists - all good, time-saving information for her ELD students.  She called me a few days later and told me that the Theseus activities were great, since she wasn't familiar with the myth and didn't see the parallels herself.  She also noted the usefulness of the grammar and vocabulary-study activities for her students' further development and understanding of English skills.  At that point, she'd only gotten a quarter of the way through the guide, she estimated, and totally loved it!  I imagine she'll be a continuing customer for Secondary Solutions.
