I have taught Romeo and Juliet many different ways over many different years. This literature guide is an excellent addition to my "bag of tricks." I especially appreciate the summary graphic organizers for each act which ask students to not just summarize plot, but to analyze, question, and predict. The non-fiction introductory articles are a great way to build background and comply with the Common Core Standards' focus on expository text. I would recommend this guide to teachers tackling this play for the first time and to teachers looking for high quality activities to add to their repertoire. The option to download PDF format is especially helpful for uploading class work to my Smart Board and on-line calendar for students.

I'm still in the process of using the guide to enhance my classes, but I LOVE the fact that these activities can all be related back to my school's benchmarks and standards and I don't have to create quality activities from scratch. It's a time saver and really does let me focus on the teaching aspect of my job more, which I am grateful for! I teach Mexican students and these activities are sometimes a challenge for them, but I would rather they be challenged than be bored. For the sake of time, I likely won't get to all of the activities in the packet, but that's a great problem to have. Plus it means next year can be another fresh experience for students. You won't be sorry that you've purchased this guide; there are many activities to choose from and new ways to spice up Shakespeare.
