  Maniac Magee

"Maniac Magee can do anything, or so it would seem.    But as the story unfolds, we find out that there is one really important thing he cannot do: maintain an address.  Jeffrey Lionel Magee was orphaned when his parents took a plunge off the bridge over the Schuylkill River in the trolley they rode to work each day.  He was sent to live with his aunt and uncle, and because they fought and ignored each other constantly, he ran away, beginning his journey to find a real home.  On his way, he helps the people he meets to understand each others’ differences, as the reader enjoys his antics, he helps us to understand that it is possible to wipe out prejudice and racism if people will only make the effort."
